Political Science forms the core of the German-language Master's programme in International Relations - European Studies. Building on foundational courses in political science, the programme offers advanced lectures in the areas of the history of ideas, international relations, European politics, governance, and security policy. This foundation enables students to analyze the complexities of contemporary political issues and develop suitable problem-solving strategies.
Graduates of the M.A. in International Relations work worldwide in diplomatic services, governmental and private institutions, as well as in international organizations and businesses. The political science module is complemented by economics (European economic policy, international economics, transformation and development) and law (EU law, international law, and international treaty law).
A further focus is on the law and practice of diplomacy. Thanks to a professorship sponsored by the German Federal Foreign Office, topics such as public diplomacy and foreign and security policy are taught "first-hand." Additionally, staff from the diplomatic services of other partner countries regularly deliver lectures, seminars, and guest presentations at the university.
It is also possible to complete the Master's in International Relations through one of two dual-degree programmes with our partner unviersities (Passau or Wuppertal).
