The goal of the Doctoral School of Neuroscience is to offer an excellent niche for neuroscience research where PhD students and supervisors can work together in the most efficient way. The school aims at providing the most modern neuroscience facilities and state of the art research in the field of basic and clinical neurosciences. The subjects studied range from the molecular biology of neurally active molecules, through cellular and network neuroscience, to human brain imaging. The wide range of PhD courses, international workshops and symposia help the students getting off to a productive start in their early research career. The broad array of scientists from other disciplines support to develop skills in complementary fields. The Doctoral School established in 2009 currently has 58 PhD students and more than 30 academics. The attractive campus is located in the green area of one the most livable Hungarian cities, Debrecen offering a wide range of activities and social interaction.

PhD students are pre-selected individually by the supervisors who are accredited members of the Doctoral School. Interested students can take part in scientific activities already during their graduate years, preparing for their PhD studies. Applicants are selected upon a scoring system, where 100 points can be collected in 3 main parts: (i) professional activity and submitted research plan of the applicant, (ii) professional activity of the supervisor, (iii) applicant’s performance at the oral interview. Application documents must include a preliminary research proposal and statement by the future supervisor.
