The Institute invites applicants from graduates of universities other than Debrecen to continue their studies in one of these PhD programs. Only students with a university/MA degree are accepted, based on an interview that evaluates the applicant’s scholarly performance, proposed doctoral work, and general professional intelligence. Further professional conditions can be set by the university or faculty councils as well as by the doctoral program committees themselves. Doctoral students may be engaged in teaching in the undergraduate program of the University of Debrecen. The applicants of the program may choose from the following research areas: English, American, Irish, Canadian, Australian studies, American and British history, Modern British and American literature and culture, Film studies and visual culture, Literary and cultural theory, Postcolonial studies, Gender studies, Popular literatureand culture, American-Hungarian relations.

The professional evaluation of the educational materials (degree, transcripts, results) and the research topic is the task of the relevant Doctoral School. This evaluation is followed by a Skype interview with one of the professors of the Faculty, which aims to check the applicant\'s level of motivation, language skills and professional knowledge. (In case of a missing certificate about the English language proficiency we conduct a Skype interview in order to check the applicant’s English language skills.)
