The main profile of the PPCU’s archaeological training constitutes of: Roman and Late Antique archaeology, archaeology of the Steppe zone and Hungarian prehistory, archaeology of medieval Europe, and the archaeology of the medieval Near-East (Islamic archaeology). All supplemented with a very strong practical field training and the teaching of the most up-to-date technologies (geophysical prospects, remote-sensing, 3D technologies and GIS).
The two main specialisation opportunities in the master course are: Roman Archaeology and Medieval Archaeology with a marked outlook towards both Europe and the Near-East. Beside the theoretical and practical courses, the more than 25 research projects in Hungary and abroad, and the international archaeological summer university attended by students of more than a dozen different nationalities, offers internationally competitive knowledge and skills for the students.
Education in the most recent technologies of research and documentation (eg. geodesy, geophysics, aerial photography, 3D, GIS) is provided by the Non-Invasive Archaeological and GIS Laboratory of the PPCU based in Esztergom which is outstandingly equipped even by international standards.
