In the plant biotechnology course, students learn the basics of cell and tissue culture, as well as the production and cultivation of transgenic plants, and finally and are introduced to the basics of genome editing. During practical parts, they learn how to prepare culture media, do in vitro micropropagation, and follow the steps producing transgenic plants. The course on molecular plant breeding introduces the most important molecular marker systems and and their possible applications. It covers in detail the mapping of cultivated plants and the mapping populations required for the identification and chromosomal positioning of molecular markers. The course also presents the fundamental principles of Marker-Assisted Selection (MAS) and Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) analysis. During the practical parts, students will become familiar with the most important PCR-based molecular techniques used in MAS.
